Stereo or gauges??

My 320i did not come with a factory stereo installed. But the previous owner had installed a decent sony stereo with 4 speakers. It was ok till i blew out both rear speakers while listening to linkin park.:D

I was in the market looking for replacement speakers and figured i might as well upgrade the entire stereo system by putting in the amp, cd changer and a better set of speakers

I was about to do dat till i saw a set of beautiful 'Defi' car gauges that costs the same as a new upgraded stereo system.

Defi from what i heard, specializes in car gauges and the one i'm interested in displays oil temp, oil presure etc and these 3 gauges fit precisely where the slot for the car stereo is.

However the technician said they have never tried to install in into a beemer since the defi gauges were set up for japanese cars.

I personally dont mind my car not having a radio and i can do without the extra weight.

What do you guys think?

It depends on what your taste is. My personal taste is for my sounds (other than the car sounds on spirited runs). Unless I am really building up the engine to be an overall monster of the roads, I can live without the gauges. Defi is a really good brand though.

How often would you take the car to the track? You might get bored looking normal oil temps and pressures. Unless you put your car to extremes, those gauges will have little use- amusing for the first few days, but kinda boring afterwards. I think if you blew out the speakers listening to music, you might miss that stereo someday.

i agree. if its a DD/street car, then get a stereo system.

linkin park? try Mike Shinoda in Fort Minor. its kick ass.

Yeah, the other car has the kick ass stereo. but with all respect to dudesky, I've got an mp3 player + my phone got 1gb of music stored in it. So music is all around me, even at work.

Just wanted to try something different with the car since every1 had their car filled to the gills with these boombastic stereos. I was looking for something different.

I did the math and saw that the defi gauges cost less than a full out upgrade on the stereo system. Plus i don't have to carry all that weight and more space in the boot.

I'd be paying the defi technician a visit when the next paycheck arrives. Pics to follow.

why do you need gauges? imo a waste of moeny for you.

you can upgrade the stereo with out it being rediculous and abnoxious.

Its either the stereo or gauges. Currently my cd player skips a track whenver i go over a bump. I'd figure i'd better change the cd player. since its gonna be rewired, might as well get in there and do a stereo upgrade.

the gauges are something unique here. No ones installed defi gauges in a beemer before. Plus the blue LED lightings looks cool

lots of people use defi gauges with their fi setups

for you they seem pointless cause a 320 isnt exactly a performance machine...no need to monitor that stuff
