Tappets when cold?

When your e36 is cold are the tappets a bit noisy but once the oil has reached normal temp the engine sounds quieter or is it my imagination?

That's normal, as long as it goes away by the time the engine has reached operating temp.

you might consider a heavier grade & better brand oil to help keep it from getting worse. (also keep in mind - temperature/season of the year can be a factor - heavier wt oil in warmer weather)
