U all might remember i dropped by my friends workshop over the weekend. He's got honest mechanics, the prices are very reasonable, plus they've done repairs on my car (when it was driven by the previous owner)

Anyway, my spare tire is cracked and out of the 4 road tires, i know 3 are bad. One is going very soon to the recycling center since i can see the nylon wearing through. Yesterday, i removed a 1/2 inch nail from the rear tires and got the tire patched up. Will the patch throw off the balance? Driving through construction sites sucks...part of the job

Since i haven't thought of upgrading the center driveshaft to solve my ever appearing vibrations gremlins, do you think changing to a new set of tires will help?

My friend, who happens to be a major distributor, offered a real good deal on new Bridgestones and dunlops.

Opinions?

For the center driveshaft vibrations, I have heard the problem could be a worn out guibo.

And if you have crappy tires they can make a lot of vibrations, and road-noise making you probably think it could be a wheel bearing, etc. That is the case on my bros nissan 240sx right now.

The rear wheel bearings have been replaced, the center bearing mount + the guibo (Artic flexdisk as stated in the invoice) were all replaced 2Q last year with new hardware.
Bummer i have to wait for a brand new set of tires by june since i've got 4mm of treadwear on 3 of my tires but 1 tire is already wearing down on the inside and showing the steel. My spare is still the originals continentals but has gone rock hard and cracked. Won't be using that anyway.
I'll live with the vibrations for now...

Yeah it was those 1/2 inch nails that drove through both tires. I didnt notice it and lucky for me i didnt blow out both tires since i went on a solo 200km journey to another district for ice cream...

I spotted them darn nails when i washed the car sunday afternoon

if the tyres are the problem it'd be best to renew sooner rather than later as it may throw other things out. also if that one tyre does blow and you stack it...

Tires can be a huge issue. Obviously get an alignment done. Have you checked the suspension bits, controls arms, sway bars, etc?

RTABs, stabilizer links (now repaired) and bushings all in good condition, shock mounts both front and rear are all good.
shock absorbers not leaking and still in mint condish.
Just those tires and those vibrating gremlins...

I had a chat with the mechani and its best that i do switch to a new set of tires and get the alignment done plus replace the driveshaft before i upgrade anything else.

the 'squek-squek' sound i'll bear with it for a while since my belts are still roadworthy.

There's another possibility regarding your vibration issue. Your rims could be out of round, as a result of bad road conditions. It's hard to tell what a car has been through before you purchased it. If this is the case, you'll need new rims- no amount of balancing will correct a damaged, elliptical or otherwise disfigured wheel. You should check for this before buying new tires.

Dats 1 suggestion i haven't considered. I'm still using OEM 15 alloy wheels. since i've tried 17 to 18 and didnt like the loss in comfort and acceleration. Yeah i got some points for style but them damn cops just keep pulling me over and asking if those 18' were "stock equipment.

So i reverted back to them 15' OEM alloys. I'll check them over the weekend. Thanks again
