E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
So I go out to check my oil cap a few days ago....and I see the yellow gooey crap underneath the cap........i was like OH SHIT
I know what this means.....head gasket leak
it wasnt a whole lot, and it was immediatly after I had started up the engine and gone to a shell station to fill up
but here's the funny thing, i've been checking my cap recently. and i usually dont see it
also........my coolant has been staying the same and I check that anally.
what gives? i thought the yellow crap under the cap meant headgasket leak
if so....then why isnt my coolant dissapearing?
Without going into chemical engineering for you - it's a good oil ridding you of condensation. I'll bet you do alot of short trips and the temps in your area have been cold lately. That's what oil is suppose to do.
I've got a question for you? (sorry I can't help this any longer)
Are you some kind of car - hypo condriact? I don't mean to be rude but you sure get carried away with your questioning the same problems over & over.
Shit sorry. but yes it has been cold lately.....well not right now but it was cold, it finally got warm, but I mean I saw the threads about the yellow crap under the oil cap so obviously I was wondering if their was some other effect besides head gasket leaks that would cause this
now that I have the time, I'll try to give you a better (and not so bitter) a descrption.
Good oils help disperse moisture from getting near your mechanicals. That "goo" shows up on your oil cap as that's the highest point on your motor. It's also an idicator that you do alot of short trip driving and your car isn't getting to normal operating temp to help evaporate any condensation that normally forms overnight or when there's big temp changes. Take your car for a good long road-trip & enjoy the ride. (and STOP worring so much... )
thx guys Yea I talked to my mechanic and he said that doesnt surprise him, i guess if I had head gasket it'd be yellow like ALL the time, plus obviously coolant would be going away which it's not
and yeah i do alot short trips . to class and such so that makes sense
