E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I was hit from behind friday. The person was going about 20mph and she hit me at an angle on my left rear. She hit me right where the tow hook is. The plastic bumber cover is scratched up some and the muffler is bent down alittle. the crash knocked the tow hook cover cap off. The impact pushed me into a curb and bent the lip of my left front wheel. I didnt thin much was wrong but when driving home I noticed the steering seemed to stick when trying to turn left. and it would seem to "pop" then it would turn. It was not doing this before I was hit Also I noticed I have a gas leak from where all the lines go up into the tank. None of what I mentioned was there before the accident. A friend of mine who works in a body shop said all this could add up to over $3000.....Anyone else agree with that??? What do all of you think? I dont want to get taken by the insurance company
As others have replied, I hope you have a police report to present to your Insurance company. $3k in damage is pretty easy to believe and you probably have more damage than you're aware of - things like rear bumper shock, bumper itself (not just the cover), muffler & pipe, look closely at the wheel that hit curb - my guess that's bent, alignment - $3k is just the tip of the iceberg.
True to everyone else, you should also take it to someone that knows BMW's to where they can tell you everything that went bad from the accident and itemize it so the insurance can't have any excuses. Also, her insurance should pay for it since she smacked you and don't forget the police report.

Her insurance company is paying. They brought me a rental car today. As for a question ask as to why do I think the insurance compay would rip me off???They could use non oem parts, to do repair something rather then replace it...remember, They want to pay as little as they can. Another thing I am concerned about is. I am having it taken to Dallas BMW it is one of the Largest BMW Dealers in the Dallas & Fort Worth area. my concern about that is the insurance compay said that Dallas BMW is one of their Blue Ribbon repair shops. I have been told that insurance companies are in ka-hoots with their " Blue Ribbon" service centers. I am told that those repair centers cut the insurance company better deals for using their shops. which means you and I are the one that suffer the cost cutting deals. Any truth to this?
The sad part of this is I am the second owner of this car and it has records for any and everything done to it since 1992. there are even enties from the prev owner when he put air in the tires and who much air he added and what day it was done on. When the car is washed and all cleaned up...other then the change in body styles it looks no more than a year old!!!! Not a mark, scratch or rip in or on it anywhere!!!! It is (was) very near Mint!

i dont believe a big BMW dealer would do something like that, they dont let the insurance company use their shop, its the actual BMW people doing it, and if you have a problem with it, contact BMW north america, c1apton can help you with that(he usally has all the info and wat 2 do w/things like this)

if you go to a BMW dealership you won't get ripped off, their parts are all OEM and will just bill the insurance company for the price. you should be fine man. oh ya, and i wouldnt be suprised if it caused more damage than you think. I got hit from behind from someone going a lot slower and my car got totalled. Not saying this would happen to you, but just make sure you get EVERYTHING checked out so you dont have to suffer the burden afterward.
