engine not shutting off
Greetings. I specialize in repairs on Italian cars. I do work on the occasional BMW,Mercedes or Porsche that comes in the shop but I don't consider myself any kind of BMW expert. I'm currently helping a very good friend with his 1986 325 5 speed. He decided to wash his engine weeks ago and ever since his engine won't shut off unless the battery is disconnected. We've disconnected the ignition switch, every concievable fuse and relay, the starter and the alternator. We've even tried replacing the ECU with a spare unit without success.
Before we start ripping and tearing at the wiring harness, has anyone ever experienced or heard of this phenomenon? I would really appreciate any constructive input.
wow you really hit it, it HAS to be either the ignition switch or the ECU, i dont really know of anything else that has anything to do with the engine shutting off, let me ask you this, when the car is on, and u turn they key back and pull it out, and open the door and all, dot he windows still open and everything?
