New Tires for a 1991 318is

I have to buy new tires for my 318is, when I get it out of storage in April. I don't know what to buy. I checked tire rack and they don't seem to have anything good. I like the factory Wheels so I am just looking for tires. Any suggestions? Can I change tire sizes without changing wheels? I know on my Jetta there are some different tire sizes you can get on the factory rims. Any help would be appriciated. The car is only driven in summer. Thank yoU!

Pete

Are you looking for a mainly performance tire? Yes you could vary the tire size a little but it will cause your speedo to be off. Im assuming your on the stock basketweaves and not bottlecaps.

Might want to check out http://www.edgeracing.com and see what they have. I'm looking to get some Falken Azenis this spring for my summer wheels and they are a great bang for the buck.

edit- i checked edge racing and they have a pretty limited selection, and no azenis (at least in the stock 195/65/14)

Edit2- I also checked tirerack and they suck to, you might want to see what a local retailer could get, or consider a rim upgrade (a nice 15/16/17).

i got bridgestone potenza G 009 205/55/R15

i like them. the grip really well; braking, and no peeling out.

^^^ i had those same exact tires on my last E30. they were flippin excellent. and not only was the traction good in the dry, it was great in the wet too. and the tread pattern is pretty sweet too.

^^^sweet. have not done anything in wet. it doesn;t rain here in Vegas

Potenzas ftw.

Although I dont htink they make potezas in R14. We have them on all the other cars though.

If not Potenzas, I got Dunlops Traction T/A. Pretty good tire for the price. Havent failed me yet around the twisties. Also they aer good in the rain.

^^^ they make them in R14. i have 14 inch bottlecaps, and i had them on that.

i dont think thats it. 14's are so small, they probably didnt even list it. and any 14's they did list were probably cheap tires for those penny pinchers in kia's and hyundais.

Yea i have some michelin pilot all seasons on now and am considering getting some real snow tires cause the all season suck my left nut.

Just get some hard styrofoam tires wrapped in rubber. Those would be cheap.

It looks like I might have to get a new tire..the on on the back right is leaking so we are going to try slime first...and if that doesn't work I have to get a new one. At least dunlops are somewhat cheap..

celsdogg 12-12-2006 12:39 PM

^^^ gotta get em in pairs, so your looking at two new pieces of rubber.

Dr1ve4fun 12-12-2006 12:46 PM

really?they are still almost new..damit the slime crap better work..that would end up being like 250+ whatever the labor and tax is..DAMIT that was what I was going to spend on getting my car looking right..I'm starting a rant thread..
