That is one, nasty, clogged, dirty air filter. step one: buy new air filter. after that check to see it the connector ring is tight around the bottom of it.

Man I bet your engine is toast with all the dirt on that filter. The dirt has probably scatched the cylinder walls to hell. I won't bother asking about a compression check! Makes me think you don't know a thing about basic car maintenance having a filter that dirty!! A stock filter is the best idea with the conditions you drive in.

lol... I know a little bit just not too much..and the car is pretty much in the same condition it was in when I baught it..other then all the dirt..that has settled into the whole engine bay..But I havnt driven it that much because I don't even have my licence yet. But a big part of the problem is my mom works so much that until I get my licence I can't take it and get stuff done I have trouble even getting her to go into a store to buy things. oh..and yeah I did tighten the clamp..it still falls off..

man.. my tbird used to be the same way when we lived out in the middle of nowhere and had to drive 10 miles of dirt road to even get to the highway. dirt would get everywhere and my engine bay would look like the road its self. yeah, just take the filter off(get a screw driver and loosen up the screw on the thing thats holding it on, i forget what they are called) and take it to the parts stor you go to and say you need a new one, there shouldnt be any problem, they should know exacly what to get and if they dont, then they are the dumbest people on the face of the earth. the filter shouldnt cost too much, maybe 10-15(dunno how much k&n costs, just a guess). stick it on there and you should be good to go for another 3,000 miles(altho, driving it on a dirt road, just peek in and check it ever month or so) after that if you have an air compreser just blow it out when it gets a little dirty.

well, hope that helped.

yeah...doesn't it suck having to drive on dirt..fun sometimes..but the extra wear on stuff is annoying.. but yeah thanks that helped. I just need to be able to go to the better parts store that is locally owned..because the people that work at the autozones here are the dumbest people on the face of the earth..as you put it..

I would check what it connects to, just assuming here, but I would imagine it should have somewhat of a flare or lip on the end so once the clamp is tightened down it'll catch and prevent it from falling off. I don't know the specifica on your car/model but I've seen it on other cars before... the lip gets broken and filter doesn't stay on (mostly on the plastic hoses). Just a random thought.

well.. on the rubber part that the clamp tightens on thers a bunch of like ridges on the inside to keep it I guess..At this point I'm thinking it's falling off mainly because of two things..The heat here in the summer messing up the rubber a little ......cus I baught the car sometime in the summer..idk id have to look at the title..and it hasn't been replaced since then..and the added weight from the dirt thats clogging it..

actualy, i found out that you learn control of the car alot faster on the dirt roads, after we moved to town, it has been about 4-5 months so i decided that i would like to go and drive the dirt roads again. i couldnt go over 45 because i coulnt controll the car on the dirt anymore. haha. felt like i was just going to swerve and die. so realy, the dirt road drivers have more control then the city drivers also, sometimes the local people arnt that great either. haha. the parts store here(small town, only have one of them), i told them i needed something for the tbird and hes like ok.. and goes to the back and brings something back, wasnt even the same thing. he does that like 5 more times so i just go back there and find it myself.

ok ok.... back on topic!

yeah..iv already fishtailed or w/e its called..that was kinda fun after i got over the fact that i almost died and totaled my car...haha...my mom wasnt too happy.. lol..iv always kind of wnodered why people that never drive on dirt roads go sooooo slow...maybe thats why..but imt alking about the people that go like 10.. yea..iv had alot of experiances like that with the autozone people..the other place though..i dont even know the name..they always know what they are talking about and stuff so..might as well go there and pay more for the competancy..and costumer service..so does the brand matter too much? cus I don't mind paying more for a better product.. (seems like K&N is kind of the most recomended..)
