Using propane with fuel injection
I know that for about $150 you can run a carbureted Subaru on propane, but I don't know how that would work with FI. Has anybody had any expierience with this? I'd like to have an E30 M3 one day, but I don't buy gasoline anymore.

i think it all depends on the combustion temperature of propane, normal gas contains octane, which is 8 carbon molecules, while propane which is 3 carbon molecules... basically i think that means its much lower combustion temperature therefore not very well? but, what the hell i have no idea wat im smoking

If it's mileage you're looking for (and don't mind a few extra minutes every tankful) try this: add 1-3oz of pure acetone not the stuff you get from hardware stores but you get it at phamarcies (Walgreens,etc...AKA: fingernail polish remover/$2.59 - 16oz)
Acetone evens the burn rate of fuel, actually burns cleaner & adds a little "oomph" to the powerband. But you must experiment with it and NO MORE THAN 3oz per 10gals. (anything more than that - you're on your own)
If you want more info - e-mail me - I'll send you some data on it. (My dad was a chemist and we've been using it in regular fuel for my "bird" and other high consumption/race vehicles for 5+ years now and it's proving to be good for significant mileage gains)

Right now running CNG sounds like a better idea to me. I'm not familiar with the early M3 engines, but know my way around the sixes alright. Maybe if I can get a cheap 5 series something I'll carburate it. Gas is going to run out one day.

the airforce uses CNG in all of the smaller trucks and flight line trucks.
