Newbie Question Free BMW
Ok so here it is, my new wifes uncle has a 1984 325e with 90,000 miles on it, he is willing to give it to me for free since he is moving to Oregon. He says it needs paint and interior. What do you think I am looking at price wise to get this thing looking nice and maybe a little drop and wheels and tires? do the classifieds on here have good stuff go through them a lot? What do you guys think and is it a good model? the only reason I am hesitant, is it causing me a lot of problems maybe, and I dont have much space.
The 325e is the 2.7 liter eta model, made for good fuel economy. 90.000 miles is very low for an 84. It may well need valve adjustment, possibly some other things like water pump, but only a good look from a shop will really tell
youd definately have to see it first, i wouldnt really worry about the engine and drivetrain, but more cosmetic and interior, because trust me, these engines are pretty simple theres nothing wild about them that you wont expect(other than regular maintenence) and if your handy with a wrench i would suggest an engine swap for that extra boost of power that you may be looking for

so I shouldnt be to worried about the engine stuff, it passed smog last year, and only has 90. How much am I looking to replace interior stuff?
you see, thats where you start worrying
first off, the BMW dealer is going to be a rip off, if you buy new seats and door panels(and do all the labor yourself) its gonna cost you much more than the car is probably worth
you can try ebay, but that all depends on how good condition those pieces are in and also depends on the availability
and again you can try a junkyard(even though junkyard cars usually dont have good interiors) but again comes the issue of how rare/common your car is(not very common, sorry to say)
