OH Oh tach doesnt work

i recently swap the engine from a 87 325e to a 89 325i, i change everything. even the clusters, but my tach doesnt work.....any idea??PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE whats goin on/?

When my tach quit, it turned out to be a fuse

Numark318i 08-21-2006 09:48 PM

fuse. does your obc work? If not then its a fuse. Happend to me.

I shorted it when i was installing my radio..i somehow blew the fuse, maybe something similar happend.

xsperf 08-21-2006 10:09 PM

maybe it was a diffrent ECU?

yes my speedometer work everything work except the tach... ..

OBC is the on board computer..its on the same fuse as the Tach. The spedo is a diferent story i believe. So...as long as your OBC is still on, and your tach isnt working, i dont know.

Take out the cluster and see if all your connections are tight

yes i was hopping thats i have leftout the connector in back of the tach off or lose...but ill have to check tomorrow...ill let u know and wish me luck lol....have a 325i engine on an E feels great..what a step it made...
i just have to work some bugs out suchs as the the tach and a the tranny mounts...and my started i left it loose a bit

i dunno which sensor calculates the engine RPM, is it the crankshaft position sensor? its one of them, you may want to check into that one, maybe the new engine came with a faulty sensor

Spieluhr 08-22-2006 02:25 AM

my first guess would be a blown fuse. it seems to be the cause of most electrical issues.

i took out this engine from the other car and it was working fine.

xsperf 08-22-2006 11:46 AM

are the sensors compatabile with each other? well, they probably are since you are able to start the car, however, if you can, find out which sensor measures the engine RPM and it may be that one

PhotoGuy30523 08-22-2006 06:23 PM

guys , i check my fuses and they are all fine...but my tach doesnt work......now how do i tranfer the idler box thats inside the car on top of the ECU...could that be the problem?

Ps what is that box anyways....do i have to tranfer it?
when i take the plug of the idler in the engine it trys to turn off...which mean its working...
