E30 Touring

Okay guys this is one of those threads that probably wont happen but one can dream right?

So I really like how the e30 touring looks, but it was never brought to the US (I hear there are a handful that have been brought here). My question is if I went to europe and found one besides shipping it back to the states what else would have to be done to get the car in, what types of paper work and would there need to be work done to get it to pass controls, etc.

Here is a picture so you guys know what it looks like

Gooddamn that looks good.

^^^ lol, thats my background!

sorry, i have no advice in that area tho. if you can get one tho, that would be excellent! :yum

From what I found out, the car would have to be "federalized" all the standards for emissions and lights and bumpers would have to pass inspection. :deal People in the military have a much easier time AFAIK What a great looking car! :shades

in addition to what witeshark said, there may have to be some paperwork so you can transfer the title to a US title, specifically the title of your state, i know in NY, when one has a salvage vehicle that he wants to rebuild so it can be registered, he rebuilds it, makes an appointment with the DMV so they can inspect it, make sure its road-safe and then they issue a title, i assume something similar to that will be done

check with the NHSTA or wahtever it is, they'll tell you if it needs to pass emissions or not. it will also tell you whether or not the car has been pre approved or if you will track down a national certified importer to bring it up to code and file the petition for you. Unfortunately, you can't choose the shop youg et it done at, your only choice is throug the handful of certified importers who charge an arm and a leg if youra car isn't on the NHSTA list and whats more FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS THE RELEASE OF THE CAR TO YOU UNTIL IT PASSES US SAFETY RATINGS WITH A GRADE OF FAIR ON ALL IMPACT TESTS AND EPA EMISSIONS STANDARDS

then after that you still gotta worry about whether or not it will pass emissions in your state and county to get it registered.

its a bitch, i looked into this a while back.

That is beautiful do yo uknow what kind of wheels those are on that and what size they are, what year car is it?

nick_318is 09-14-2006 12:26 PM

^no to all 3 questions, it was just a picture I found

celsdogg 09-14-2006 12:39 PM

i would guess they are 17's but it looks like neutral, or even negative offset. i thought E30's had to use postive offset rims.

i would guess its a 89 of newer, but its probably been modified a lot, so its anyones guess.

who submitted that pic?

nick_318is 09-14-2006 12:56 PM

I found it on a site (maybe e30 tech, maybe a google search) I can't be sure. I would agree that they look like they are 17s. Hard to say the year since its an aftermarket looking body kit.

It's a late model E30 (88-91) and the suspension is either M3 or a 5 lug disc conversion since the regular E30 didn't come 5 lug. I saw a identical one here a couple of months ago and when I spoke with the guy he offered a ride in it. He had a 3.5 in it and that thing ROCKED!!!!!!!!!! after we got back to the craft shop he told me it was a complete M3 setup with adjustable hydraulic rear. I've heard over here that it is the best improvement that you can do, and after that ride...........:bowdown :bowdown THAT IS WHAT I WANT!!

Denyo, where are you in Germany? I'm in Heidelberg.
