E21, E30General discussion and technical help for 1975-1991 3 series cars.
whats up eveyone. I have a slight problem... everytime I put the clutch in, all my brake lights come on . Any suggestions on going about fixing said problem??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
sounds like theres an electrical problem, you see, theres a switch right above the brake pedal, called the brake switch, which ones u push the pedal, turns the brake lights on, and there is one infront of the clutch too, thats for the cruise control so it turns it off once u push the clutch in, are you sure they arent switched? wat happens when u push the brake pedal?

the brake lights work normal when I hit the brakes, they all come on and they do the same thing with the clutch when its depressed all the way down. I made sure that it wasnt just my big ass foot (14) hitting both the pedals at the same time which happens in my dads toyota truck, but thats not the case.
oh, it only happens when the clutch is alll the way down? man i havent got the slightest clue, if there is a switch that is triggered whent he clutch is all the way down(for like the starter to start the car) you may wanna look at that see if its shorting or something

Check your brake fluid level, the clutch runs off of the same system as the brakes, it might be low on fluid causing the brake fluid light to come on when you press the clutch.
Edit and what exact lights come on if its the brake fluid one then this is probably your problem if the park brake and brake lining lights come on it might be something else.
I have heard that there is sometimes a connection between the clutch and brake levers. That may mean that the clutch moving causes the brake lever to move, and then the light brake lights come on from the brake lever switch
I just went out a looked up there, and there is no wires getting caught up and pulling or hooking the pedals and the brake fluid is full, Im out of ideas as of the moment.... any other ideas?
