E21, E30General discussion and technical help for 1975-1991 3 series cars.
OK..I just got my first car and its an 85 325e. It is in really good condition as far as the body and everything except for the trim around the back window has rust under the rubber. The front window is starting to do it too..is there a way to just clean the rust off or would it be easier to just get it replaced? The second question I have is how do i set the clock?lol I tried everything and i cant get it to do anything the battery had died when we got it so its just dashes...
for the clock, i dont know exaclty how you do it, but i think you have to use a pen, there are two little buttons that u can only push with a pen? as for the window, can u take pictures of exactly what yoru talking about? is the rust on the actual body or what? are you talking about the weather strip?

Rust on the weatherstrip? Or do you mean the chrome moldings? If it's on the chrome moldings just take some .0000 steel wool (pronounced 4 ott) and polish the rust off. .0000 steel wool is the finest steel wool out and it works wonders on chrome & doesn't scratch it. If the rusts on the paint under then a good rubbing or polishing compound is needed.
As far as the clock, ther are 2 buttons that need to be held in (as Chris said with a pen) to set the time. (also hope you have the code handy for your radio if the battery went dead & if you have factory radio.
That picture was when i first got the car we have had it for a few weeks now and it recently got way more rust on that part..i think it was just because it got humid all of a sudden..
lol..it has no radio right now im going to get a pioneer to put in it...but i mihgt get some black..idk if it would look good though since the side windows have the plasticy chrome trim...

for the e30 computer - to set the clock there should be an hour and a minute button If i remember correctly you have to press them both and hold them until the period (.) starts to blink then press the proper button until the time is set then press the time button. I think this is right but i'm away from my car for 2 weeks so I can't go out and make sure. otherwise its some combination of those two and maybe pressing the time button. Hope this helps.
