M42 DOHC or SOHC?
ok. i want a solid answert on this. I have looked all over the place..and i keep getting two different answers. Is my M42 Dual overhaed cam or single?
also my valves are not adjustable from what i have read, because aprently they are...the word slips my mind..but basically they cant untime themselves? anyone got info on this? |
M42 engine is a 1.8L 4 valve per cylinder inline 4. DOHC to answer your question.
Unless you hear valve chatter or a tapping noise from the top end of your engine I wouldnt waste my time adjusting valves. |

i think u are thinking about hydraulic valve lifters. i think they were used on the M44 in later E36's. in my experience with my E30 (or any car) getting the valves adjusted just helped the engine run smoother, it didnt help performance really. |
