1985 325E fuel pump
Hi all, i have a question, my mecanic told me that i needed to replace my fuel pump, according to him i need 2 fuel pumps, i have a 1985 325e 2 door, does any body know if this true, i ask someone else and i was told that there was only one fuel pump by the back seat, any info? thanks
there is only one fuel pump. on E30s from '84-'87 its under the car by the rear wheel on the drivers side. from '87 on, its in the tank, accessible by taking the rear seat off.
installation is very easy for either (easier for the one in the tank tho).

I'd be looking for a new mechanic if he told you you had 2 fuel pumps. They have only one pump and on early models they have what looks like two fuel filters but one is actually a water seperator, but alot of people refer to it as a fuel filter.

Thank you all for your input, this is indeed a great comunity, what i was told by the mechanic (again after i told him about the reponses i got here) is that there is one inline and one external? i check with another mecanic and he sais that there was only one by the drivers back seat, so i went ahead and look for the fuel pump, i found this place efuelpumps.com and i email them asking them about this issue i have and here is their reponse
"Hello, the bmw 325e did have two pumps, one mounted in-tank and one mounted externally. We only sell in line (external) pump here because the external pump is bad more ofter than in tank one. Please check with your mechanic and make sure which pump was malfunctioned. You don't need to replace two pumps together, and it is ok to change the defective one only. Thanks for your question!"
