E21, E30General discussion and technical help for 1975-1991 3 series cars.
Well i just wrote up a long thread about this...closed my browser before i submitted the thread. Dam
anyways I found some rusty water leaking from my trunk near the battery compartment.
So im soaking up the water right now, but what could have caused the water to get in there?
Ill try to wait a few days and see, but i dont think water will just magically show up. It has to leak in from somewhere right?
Anyone had this happen to them?

When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
looks like the drain line was off from your battery, once you clean that stuff up, if I were you, I would undercoat the battery compartment
wheres does that go?
I was looking for a place to put it, and didnt find anything. also i want to undercoat it, luckly the rust isnt bad at all, just surface. Can i get the undercoat at kragen?
Clapton i checked the seals and nothing. Hopefully its just that drain thing. I was looking on realoem to find a deagrama dn found nothing.

U can get some from your local Advance Auto parts or Autozone.
The drain line just elt's excess baterry acid/water drop out. Mine has a hole specific for the drain line... Keep looking

It may have splashed in from underneath. Have you driven through any big puddles?
Well i drive in the rain alot...but thats a huge design flaw if so. I havent driven through puddles big enough to submerge my rear arpon.

Like c1apton said, check your trunk lid seal along with the metal around it. My friends e30 had this problem and it came thru the metal that had rusted.

maybe ill check that. I do park the car so its facing downhill when ever i wash it, leaving some water sitting at the top of the trunk for about an hour.
Ill take a look

I sanded off any thick surface rust and wd-40'd the rest and wiped it clean. Cleaned the bolts for the battery tray and sparyed the area with undercoating. Only complaint is that its black, but what ever u cant see it. Now my only question is where did the water come from. And wheres that drain plug connect to.

The same thing happened to my 325 it was the trunk seal. To get rid of the water happening again i just drilled a hole through the bottom of it. It may not be the most conventional way of doing it but it worked.
i know the sunroof has a drain that comes out near there, somewhere behind the bumper. maybe its coming from there, maybe from the rear light assembly isnt sealer?
