Power steering leak
Anyone know what the most likely cause (like fluid lines) and what is involved in a fix? (e_andress55 - maybe your E30 friends know?)

there are probably some seals that need to be replaced around the power steering pump.. and the actual main case or thing, i forget what is called... just look on alldata or something as to where the power steering seals are, and look at your car see if they are wet

just remove the whole ps pump and loop the hoses, it makes the steering feel 100x better and the increase in effort isn't that bad.

If you want to just try it and see how it feels before you go all-out and take out the pump, just take off the belt. It was a night and day difference for me.

I know that on E36's the leak usually comes from the hose fittings, I think they're called banjo bolts.

Yeah, most likely going with the remove it idea. No way my car needs power steering for me, not like my mom will drive it

you won't be sorry! (plus I find it quite a nice incentive to prevent people from driving your car. My mom refuses to drive it b/c the steerings "too heavy")

The seals never leak, banjo bolts bont leak unless there loosesed. Your PS hoses, most likely the one from the resivior to the pump or from the pump to the rack are leaking. They arnt the hardest to fix, just make sure you get new clamps and washer seals. For an E30 the hoses should run you no more then 200$.
