it sure looks like there was a bolt there just a little while ago. call up the guys who worked on your car when you had the oil pan worked on and ask them about it.

Haha, yeah, it looks like there used to be one there not too long ago.
Maybe even take that pic to the parts department at a dealership. They can look up the diagrams and tell you exactly what size bolt it needs.

i'm having trouble figuring it out from real oem, i still have to go outside and take a look to see if i can get a better feeling of what it is, but your best bet might be your BMW parts department have them take a quick look

umm tahts an hour away...so i dont know if i can go down there right now.
its right above the boot for the steering rod. if that helps. Drivers side.
yea i know i have to get that bolt in there.
I went on a drive this morning, drove the car pretty hard...but idk when it really fell out. I hope its not stripped or cracked. what else could have caused it to come out?

personally, if its not leaking anything, and its gonna be a hassle, i wouldnt bother, then again, i dont know exactly where its located, i mean it could be a bolt that just holds something in place, like it holds the bracket that holds whatever, who knows...

ah, seeing that picture i now know where you were looking, I went out and was having a hell of a time trying to match the picture to my car. I can't say how much you need that, if its not leaking much i would just say when you have time run up and get the part.

WORD
ok i purchased the bolt and washer for 20 cents. came home cleaned it all off. put in the bolt and tightened all the others. Turns out three other screws were ready to fall out also. (took torques advice and check the other screws)
I also did another oil change with 15-50 synthetic oil, which is what my manual recomends.
Ill see in a couple of hours if its leaking, because i believe i put to thin oil in it last time, causing the oil to seep out the gaskets and leaving oil all over the underside of my car.
Hopefully everythings squared away.
Thnx for the realOEM website referal. I also found out my car is a 1990 not a 1991.
