started working on the e30

Over the last week or so we started working on the car. We took out the door handles and installed poppers. The left side is ready for primer and theres alittle more work to do on the right side. We glued the sideskirts up with panel adhesive the other night. We'll get those prepped tonight. I hav pictures and I'll try to get those posted sometime today.

Awesome. :thumbup

Also, if you do anything worthy of a DIY, you should take some pics and throw it together to help others down the line. :thumbup

the door had a past repair and they screwed it up pretty bad... so we had to sand out all the high spots and we ended up using a lot of body filler. its all straight now though, just look at the shot along the side of the car

heres a few more pics... the hood is pretty far gone, the people that worked on it last didnt do a great job. so im replacing the hood and the front bumper needs quite a bit of work too. it has lots of high and low spots. so were gonna try working the spots out tonight. ill try to post some more shots later

looking good.
once u shave the door handles do u use an alarm to open the doors or what?
What happens if ur battery dies?

e30boarder 01-24-2006 10:50 PM

the set up comes with two remotes... and we set up an emergency switch in the back that shuts the doors off. were gonna try and fit a little button in the bottom of each mirror to pop the doors. and if the battery dies.... im basically screwed. i would need a jump. ive heard about cables that run through the door and if ur battery does die, you can pull on em and pop the door mechanically. i guess you could run it out to the wheel well. im not really sure how its set up.

i fired up the patch on the right door handle so ill make sure i take some DIY pics wen it gets patched up again... i dont hav any pics of the actuator and popper and how we rigged it up in the door but ill put up a quick walkthrough for anyone interested. its not too difficult

should be good when its fully resprayed. Tip, see if you can get hold of the M-Tech 2 side door panelling, will look better with those side skirts you got on there otherwise it might look a bit plain and stuck on, trust me on it!

e30boarder 01-25-2006 09:09 PM

the left side is primed and after alittle wet sanding the right side will be ready tomorrow. i should be getting a new hood friday... ill see how it works out. im gonna use the sun roof off my 84 cuz theres a few rust spots on the one in the car right now. heres some more pics
