if you're going to get a new differential, at least increase from your stock (i'm assuming stock, who would buy an open differential when replacing theirs) diff. go up a little bit and increase acceleration.

I might have access to a 4.1 lsd which is why i'm asking and yes i'm going from open to LSD so that should help. If i can find a 4.27 or 4.44 I would go for that.

i was meaning increase the ratio.
going from an open to an LSD is not increasing, we have a word called "upgrading" for that. perhaps you are not familiar with the english language. it would also be why i said to go up a little bit and increase acceleration. getting a LSD will not increase acceleration on a 318. it's not like he's spinning tire on 134 horses.
i wouldn't bother getting just the LSD. didn't 1991 318iS come stock with LSD?

A LSD was an option on the 318is and I know mine does not have it since my dad is the guy who originally bought the car (yes in 1990, and it has been owned and maintained by my family since it was new) and he told me he didn't get it and should have.
And please note I also said if I found a 4.27 or a 4.45 that I said I would think about doing that, i simply posted this thread to find out what I should expect to pay if I decided to do it not to be called an idoit, i'm not looking for the 4.1LSD to increase my acceleration, i'm just looking to upgrade from an open diff to a LSD.
Please read what I said, I have found a guy with a 4.1LSD that i was considering possibly buying, and yes for me a LSD would be an upgrade I have tracked the car and plan to continue doing so and in doing so I see a LSD as benificial.

It's not really worth the price just getting the LSD if you're going to keep the same ratio... What's worth the price is increasing the ratio and increasing your acceleration because if you track the car you'll hopefully know that the 318 needs some extra oomphf on the straights.
