need some advice please

hey all. im a new member and would like to know what you think of this deal. some lady next to my house is selling a 84 325e with some problems. car does start but has a big gas leak. tachometer dosnt work, passenger window dosnt go down, both fenders are dameged slightly, one fixed. no passenger seat. also another 84 325e as a parts car that was backed into. damage only to right front quarter panel. no engine. also small fire inside with little damage. all for $500. plus driving an hour and a half to pick up one of them. let me know what you think. i can get pics of it if needed.

thanks. the only thing that is bothering me is that i will prolly have to spend close to three grand to get it the way i want it. like '91 plastic bumpers, rims, new seats cause the ones that are in it are toast. new paint which wont be expensive cause my brother paints cars, engine mods, and new exhaust cause the stock one is conpletely rusted. still think its a good deal?

Well I think that depends on you. If you're looking for a car to get on the road fairly quick, this is obviously not the one. But a restoration project, at least to me, is more about the wealth of experience you gain. It's really your call though.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

And welcome to UB.

if you're more just looking for a decent e30 to drive around you'd be better off buying one in good shape. a buddy of mine bought an 85 not to long ago for $1500 running good no porblem and it already hada pretty nice sound system too.

jrhaile over near spokane got a running dinan turbo'd e30 for around $4500 (correct me if I'm off, james). that's something like an 11 sec car too. If you're looking for a drivable car as opposed to a project car I'm positive you can do better.

I'm over near seattle and it took me a year to find the bmw perfect for me. boy am I glad I waited

whatever you do, daggis, good luck!

edit: just talked to james. his mechanic bought the E30 for $2500 and spent $1-2k getting it going. by the time he bought it it was $8000 but that's after several upgrades. you see my point. around $4500 for a running dinan turbo E30, which is one of 200 produced in the US.

I don't understand the point of buying a pre-88 if you want to swap to 91 bumpers. I'd want a pre-88 in order to run the M-tech 1 kit.

Sounds like it's not going to be that much to get in good working order. With two cars, just mix and match and it should be fine.
