Might buy E21

I am thinking of buying an E21. What should I look for in it? It looks and sounds like it's in good condition from the pictures and what the guy told me. Also, is there somewhere I would be able to pick up one of those european front air dams? I would probably paint it black by the way.

I'm in the same boat. A friend at work has one up for grabs for $500. 1980 320i, 160k, new upholstery, runs perfect, well maintained. I don't know what to look for either. I figure I might pick it up for a long term restoration project. Good luck with yours if you buy it, and let us know how things go.

Rust is the biggest issues with these cars since they're getting pretty old. Check around the shock towers, especially in the trunk and in the spare wheel well.

If you have a choice opt for the iS model as it comes with a LSD. There are a number of different front spoilers (BBS, Alpina, and Hartage) all made spoilers, the question is how to get your hands on them. A couple pop up on Ebay or Ebay.de every once in a while.

Assuming the picture you linked is the one you are looking at, I'd say it looks pretty clean, but I'm not a fan of the color. I would suggest compressing the bumpers or if you can (and have the money) spring for some euro bumpers.

If you have any specific questions let me know.
