Smile Hello and request for help

Firstly, I would like to say hello, and thanks for providing this good website.

I have a bmw318i (E30), that I think is from around 1991 that I obtained quite cheaply from a colleague that didn't want it any longer. The car was driven to my place, and has been stored in the shed (in dry conditions) for about 6 months. I did run the engine about 5 months ago, then removed the battery and have charged it occasionally since.
Now, when I put the battery back in and turn on the ignition, all that happens is that the hazard flashers come on, and nothing else. The hazard flashers still work as normal, when the hazard switch is depressed. I have tried other batteries, all give the same effect.
One thing I haven't tried is cleaning and checking the connections of all earth points, that is something that seems to give problems as I have seen from some posts.
I am sure the car is trying to tell me something, but I don't know what.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to United Bimmer.

Try cleaning and checking the posts as you mentioned, also try checking all of the fuses and other wiring connections. If need be, remove your alternator and take it to an auto parts store that can test them. A voltmeter might be worth the investment if you dont have one as well.
