E21, E30General discussion and technical help for 1975-1991 3 series cars.
so yea..rear right strut is broken..fucking great. I get to replace it now. man i feel like my car is falling apart..but what do i expect..its 15 years old. So i noticed a new sound that was being emitted from the trunk. I also noticed a drastic change in my handling..i wanted to figure out what was wrong. So far all i know is taht the strut fromt eh top(strut tower) is able to spin allt eh way aqround..yet the bolt is tight. So i guessing the stru is broken from the inside somehow.
well yea i got to get new struts..not sure what ima buy yet. Im thinking something from Bavauto that fits on stock springs.

Yes your stock shocks are Boge automatic (as far as I know). I'm not sure exactly why you aren't supposed to mix gas and automatic, but Bav Auto told me not to. You can check w/ them for the exact reasons.
Any way, nice buy w/ the Touring shocks, I like those a lot.

Compression and Damping rates. If your fronts have different rates than your rears, the handling can be severely compromised. Just think of it this way... If you are taking an off camber corner at speed and run over a pot hole, and lets say your fronts are slower compressing than your rears, the front will be more affected by that sudden jolt, perhaps causing snap understeer, your car starts pushing to the outside of the corner, and HELLOOOO GUARDRAIL!
Just an extreme example, (no, NOT from experience!) but based on my Autocross experience, an unbalanced car will NOT behave as neutrally as it should, ESPECIALLY a Bimmer, which have always been noted for exceptional handling!
icic..wel im gonna order them next week. I can deal with it for a week..hopefully
