Windsheld Wiper Assembly

Hello, I am rebuilding my 1981 320IS (E21). I noticed that the Windsheld wiper arms were moving in the cowling. I removed the assembly and ordered new grommets for the cowl and now I cant get the wiper arms back into place. Is there a trick to doing this?
