325i will not charge!!!
Ok so ive been working on my brothers car its been broke down. Probably for a couple months. So I try to go over there today and he's replaced the battery once and the alternatore today! This is alternate number 2. The voltage started out at 12.2v and slowly goes down as time passes. Within 30 min its dead completely. He was told by a mechanic that the signal wire to the alternator could be bad so he rwplaced it still no change!!! Is there some kind of alternator relay or something blocking it from getting the hint to kick on? He said when the car died on him he and a friend jumped it off! Well the guys apparently made a big whoops and crossed the jumpers! So maybe the pcm is bad???

Seriously damn little dash light causes this much of a problem? He bought the care and the dash lights are rigged to a battery pack in the glove box? Is this right? An%d if its not the dash light is there anything else to look fodor?

There was a small battery pack in the dash that got deleted on later E30's. There shouldn't be a pack anywhere else in the car. Is there any aftermarket stuff on it?
And yes, that little battery light in the dash burning out will cause the alternator to not charge the battery. I've bought Beemers for next to nothing because no one bothered to figure that out and it was on "non-working" alternator number 3.

Pull the steering wheel (make sure the key is turned to the unlock position to remove the wheel). Pull the dash cluster out, its on the right side (while facing the gauges) along the bottom. While its out check and replace any and all burned bulbs.

No puller, you'll damage the wheel lock. Just undo the bolt, turn the key and the wheel will come right off. Mark its position before you pull it, it's designed to be easy sine the older ones required a SI board replacement as a part of regular service (that's what had the battery pack in the dash)
