noob needs help diagnosing engine tick
I just bought this e30 yesterday. I hear these M20 engines are "sewing machines" but does this sound "normal" or do I have something I need to address? I'm only beginning to learn to work on this car myself. Thanks.

That doesn't sound normal. First its time for some valve adjustment, if it doesn't go away (which it may not) you need to locate where that knock is coming from. Use a mechanics stethoscope to isolate it and then tell us where it is.
