'88 325is sat in barn for 8 years

Gents,

I'm purchasing an 88 325is w/ 70k miles sight unseen. This was an impulsive craigslist purchase last week. I'm hopping on a plane to Cleveland this Thursday to drive it back to Chicago on Friday (fingers crossed).

The seller claims it starts and runs, albeit rough as it has been sitting idle in a barn for 8 years. I'll be dealing with a half-tank of 8 year old gas, 8 year old oil, crap tires and lord knows what other issues.

This is the second e30 I've owned over the years so I'm somewhat familiar with the car and its mechanics. Can any one think of any further issues I might come across in a car that's been "barned" for 8 years. I trying to pack my bag accordingly.

Thanks,
Jim

Drain the tank and put in new gas. Try to change the fuel filter, oil etc. Chances are the timing belt is done for, if it lets go while driving..........bad news. Lot to worry about with a sitter and taking it on a road trip without some good serious maintenance and inspection first.

+1 taking a car that has not been running in the last 8 yrs and doing any type of long road trips is kinda a gamble. Replace the oil, gas, spark plugs, fuel filter. flush the Cooling system. Sight unseen is kinda hard to know what you should pack for the car.
