Question 1989 318i Battery died...now key won't turn

Hiya Chaps,

I stupidly left my lights on overnight and found my car battery drained the next day. I got a friend to come round and try to jump start it using his car but ran into a bit of a problem.

The key won't turn all the way in the ignition. It gets to the 2nd position and refuses to turn to start. I've tried both sets of car keys and neither work, it feels like it would feel if the steering wheel was locked but that isn't the case...

Any idea what I should check or what this could be?

Regards!

Try to jiggle the wheel back and forth while turning the key. Otherwise there isn't any reason the key switch should have stopped working due to a battery dying.
