Fan Belt

In the depth of the coldest winter my 1987 325 has ever seen, my fan belt started slipping and making a terrible squeaking noise. I originally though it was part of my clutch assembly, because it doesn't squeal all the time, but it's been proven to be the belt (a/c compressor sends it haywire).

This morning on the way to school, the belt slipped a good bit, I smelled something akin to burning rubber, and was thoroughly frightened. I popped the hood and the smell wasn't too prominent, but it was there. The belt itself looks alright, though I obviously couldn't see all of it. How hard is it to replace the belt in an M20? Am I going to need any specific tools? I need the car every day, so I'd like to do this myself instead of giving it to my mechanic for a week.

There is this place here that supplys all the parts for pretty much all shops and stores. I got my belts from there for about $20

Do you have your Bentley manual? The method to change the belt is very easy, and it is outlined in the Bentley.

Pretty much you release the adjuster screws and move the alternator down, swap belts, and put 'er back together.

I have the V-belt, so I have to tension it semi-manually.
Other than that, I don't think there's anything in there that I don't already know how to do.

I'm one of those kids who never bought a Bentley Manual; everything I've ever needed so far, I've found online.
