no-start condition... cost of figuring it out
I have an '88 325is, with about 120x on it.
I gave it to a mechanic, who is big into e30's. He's also not legit, so I thought that his familiarity with the car, and him working under the table would give me good results at a good price.
After two-weeks (i was getting impatient) he finally figured out that the connectors on the fuel-injector harness were corroded, so he cleaned them up, and the car started.
I'm sure he did a lot of work to get to this point, BUT, he wants to charge me 400 big ones.
I think kind of steep, what you?

Wish I could help you....I did a quick search to find the price of a new harness and didn't find anything at Pelican or Bavarian Autosport. Corrosion on the connectors is fairly common, though, and that can be cleaned off without replacing the entire harness. Of course yours could have been in such bad condition that a replacement made more sense. Still, I'd ask your mechanic what the harness cost, and then you can determine what the labor charge was. Better to clear the air now or else you'll mistrust him when the next project is due.
