running issues
i have a 1987 325i it will run and drive for like a half hour then it will just quit. then it will not start again for a while then other trimes it will start right back up run for a few minutes then quit. i put a new crakshaft postion sensor in,fuel injector cleaner, and distributor cap and rotor when it won't start back up there sometimes is no spark and it is geting fuel any ideas i also tried another coil. i think it might be a heating up issue should i take the thermaste out and try that
thank you for any help
ps also when it won't start the check engine light is on when you crank the motor as soon as that goes out it starts.

Wiring issue, air gap getting to big between the crank sensor and tone wheel when hot, ECU crapping out (had that same issue on an 86 of mine, got progressively worse and worse until.......).
Check the crank sensor, make sure it's as close as possible without touching the tone ring and that it is in tight.

how do i adjust the crankshaft sensor it has one bolt holding it in? do i move the mount where it attaches to the motor? or where it attaches to the sensor because the new sensor is the same lengh as the old one but it is further away then o.o4-o.o5 which is what the manual says but i can't figure out how to adjust it thank u

Just went out to look at mine but there's to much crap in the way for me to give you a straight answer. Most likely adjust the bracket if the sensor won't go in far enough. But if your air gap is too great then the signal won't be large/clean enough for the ECU to read it, will cause a no start condition.
