here we go...ive been having problems starting my 1986 325es...ive asked for help in another site and i was only directed toward ground cables, which i checked for and found nothing to help the situation...but neways ive been having problems starting my car..SOMETIMES...but i do not see any explanation since its pretty much 50% starting and 50% not starting...this includes cold starts...the engine cranks when it does not start but ive noticed that the rpm needle does not jump AT ALL when its not going to start...another thing is, the car seems to have trouble starting the most when the front of my car faces up toward a slope..i thought this might lead me toward having a fuel issue but im not sure....if any of this makes sense and if anyone can help ,plz direct me toward my problem...thanks guys.

You say the RPM needle does not jump when it does not start? Does the little engine light stay on while cranking when it doesn't start as well? That would most likely be caused by a bad CKP (crank posistion sensor) or the wiring/connections to/from it. Otherwise you may have an ecu that's headed south.

hmm where exactly is the CKP located??And do you think that there would be a reason for there being a significant change in how many tries it takes to start my car when facing up a slope??? Because i know for sure i have more trouble starting my car when its facing up a slope...this happens at my work where theres a small slope on the parking lot....i dunno well thanx anyways.

I'd have to go out and look on my '86. On the m20 update motor, it's mounted right on the front of the engine close to the crank. It's a 2 wire magnetic sensor and picks up it's signal from the toothed ring on the front of the engine. Why is it worse on an incline? maybe it's just a bad connection and the wiring harness shifts just enough to exaggerate the problem, or the sensor is loose in it's mount, and it's shifting. It could also be minor corrosion on the terminals causing just enough resistance to deaden the signal unplug it plug it back in, could also solve it. Not saying it's definitely the sensor does the engine light go out while cranking when it doesn't start? (I'm just keying off of the rpm gauge)
