correct ecu for 87 325is ?

I just bought this car and someone has a " for test purposes only " ecu in it . i was wondering what the right one was, bosch part # ? and i also didnt know if some were programmed more for performance? I would like to upgrade some stuff for performance but im not to sure what my options are on a budget. I will probably get a chip and from there im not to sure. if anybody had any tips i would greatly appreciate it.

Chances are they had a bad ecu and the replacement they bought was a test unit from a mechanic who no longer needed it, or something along those lines (a lot of times mechanics will keep "known good" parts for diagnostic swap out purposes). IF the car works and runs fine I wouldn't give it a second thought. If you're looking to "chip" it go with someone reputable with a proven track record. Most of the time they'll sell you a whole unit instead of just the chip which can be a bit tricky to handle sometimes.

thanks again. i just paid 400$ for this car it wasnt running(fuel problem) got it running but its still not running right. the haynes book showed me how to jump the relay and the fuel pump is ok. in the trunk i found the complete service history till may 08, and couldnt find any problems with fuel or the ecu but i think the guy i bought it from messed with it and i think maybe he stuck that ecu in there. ill probably find one just to make sure. until then i cleaned it up and man is this thing sweet! i cant believe how nice this car is!
