What hose is this and why did the blue arrow eat it?
Ok first sorry about the size of the picture. I'm using someone elses computer and it doesn't have any image resizing software on it.
I just got the alternator replaced and I think thats what the blue arrow is. Not sure though... I need to know what hose the green arrows are pointing to so I can get a new one. I'm not sure why it happened but those metal things spin and it made a small gash in the hose and I lost all of my coolant. There is duct tape on it to at least hold it back so I can get to Checker/autozone whoever has the hose. I noticed before the car was completely empty or overheating though. Thank god. What would have caused it to do that? Is there some clamp that I am missing?
Edit: here is a link maybe it will resize in your browser. http://files.unitedbimmer.com/ub.c/D...n/IM000753.jpg

That's one of the coolant lines, looks like the one from the bottom of the radiator. The morons installed the new alternator too close to it. They really should fix that, there's no way they missed what was gonna happen The duct tape may not hold on a trip more than 10 minutes max with coolant pressure.

Thanks whiteshark. I guess I'm taking the car back to them tomorrow. I don't know how I'm getting it there considering they are a good fifteen minutes away.

Make them fix it for you and make sure you don't have to pay.

true that. and afterwards, do as many things as you can yourself. It is cheaper, and things get done right.

They should take care of it since it's there fault. I would do my own work, but I tend to doubt my abilities because of some things that I have broken... They weren't car related though.

One of the reasons this happen is because your motor mounts are weak and when you push your breaks your motor shifts forward and causes the lower radiator hose to get close to the alternator and power steering pump pulleys, which is why in 87 there was a change in the lower radiator hose location, it was changed to the passenger side.

So is it even the mechanics fault? There was no problem until yesterday when I got it back from getting a new alternator. Do I need new engine mounts?

They still placed the alternator way too close to the coolant hose. They still should fix it.

i dunno if they also changed this in 87, but the engine can only go so far forward, like maybe half an inch. there is a brace attached to the bottom of the engine and tranny that pushes against a crossmember to prevent the engine from moving forward.
