E30 318i (1987) starting problems
Hello all from Western Australia
New to this forum - haven't even had time to get my details up yet.
I have been having intermittent starting problems.
Turn the key - nothing.
Not a flat battery - lights etc don't dim
If I wait long enough (20 min +), all works fine, perhaps a few weeks, until the next time.
Jiggled auto T-Bar in D and N - no use.
Other possible factors.
Hot weather (90+)?
Air conditioner left on when start is attempted first time.?
Is there a relay that could be failing?
Any ideas appreciated

Hi, same thing happened to me, my battery was old and after driving it with a/c on it would not start. After about 30 minutes it would start right up. Tested battery which was weak, replaced it and never had problem again.

Check your ignition switch. If you are getting the lights but no action when you turn to crank on then your switch is not making the connections. You can start by checking that portion by removing the connector from the switch itself adn try to start it like that. If it does the same thing, time for a new switch. Good luck.
