Pictures Tell more then any description. Two Key things I see that in my opinion show how well they were cared for are a good dash and good interior. How do the seats look? I think the side markers and lights should detract from the price some. Does it have service records? Is that 120,000 miles if so its not a lot for an e30 and helps with the price. Pictures and I will tell you if I think its a good deal. See my signature for the biggest flaw with this car.

I bought my 89 325i 5spd about a year ago. It had 180,000 Km (111846 miles) for 4700 Cdn. Interior and exterior were almost perfect with a tear on the back seat and a scratch on the trunk lid. Since i've owned it I've replaced the timing belt, distributor, subframe bushings, and struts. Right now i'm driving it in winter conditions in Calgary AB and the limited slip differential is kicking ass. I love this car. If i were you i'd wait for a manual transmission. An automatic just isnt that much fun.

^ +1 on the wait for a manual, although 120k miles is pretty good for how old it is. Personally I probably wouldnt pay that much for an automatic unless it was immaculate. However we're talking $500-$1000 difference which in the long term probably isnt that much when you consider how much people waste on tv's, computers, cell phones and ipods. I'd say at that price it's just a matter of convenience, can you wait longer or do you need this car. I'd try to talk him down in price though and maybe then consider it.

Please post pictures, inspect undercarriage closely, look for cracked front subframe passenger side, test rear shocks, a/c work?, tire life, buffed paint?, collent color, brake life, all of this is very easy stuff to help bring the price down if you have to replace anything.
To fix your 85 325 for good upgrade to 1.3Motronic.

i will go by and see if its there still and get pics .but ive decided to pass on this one the car is in good shape other than head lights and marker light .but its a automatic wich i really do hate .on top of that i think he is asking to much and is a older guy who doesnt seem like he will budge on the price any .that and my wife said i would need to sell my 85 325 with all the mods on it wich however is in the shop right now with the idle problem.only up side to the 89 over my 85 is the bumpers not being diving boards depending who are and what you like im still undecided on that debate. any way even with being a i over my 85 being e with the head work and all suspension upgrades etc my 325e is still better and the main thing is its a 5 speed that is if this shop can get to idle at 700 rpm steady .thanks for repley's
