Fuel Injector Project

Hi again. I was able to get a great deal on 6 new 19lb injectors. I was planning on doing some other projects at the same time. Like paint the intake manifold and valve cover, change the fuel filter, clean everything up etc. My questions is, has anyone else tackled this with some pointers to share?;and what are some other good things to replace or clean while I am doing this? and dooes anyone know the gasket list I should buy? Thanks in advance!!!!

hi

I have done this recently and found you need a day to take out and replace all the parts.. you need new gaskets for the throttle body and the inlet manifold ..you might get away with the rocker cover manifold..The manifolds can be painted with 2 pack paint and a pro lacquer..its better to get spares and paint before you start dismantling

oh yes and spare 10mm sockets for when you lose one down the engine

Check your fuel lines for cracking and remember to fit them the right way up..you have to take off one of the coolant lines to get at one of the manifold nuts The breather tube that goes from the manifold to the block has a spring which has to be compressed before replacing ..use a plastic tie which you cut when in position. Whilst you have the manifold off clean the electrical connector plug ..you might not have another chance

take pics to remind you of what goes where

as to 19lb injectors, I had no probs with the 17.5lb ones but have you done anything else t the car if s they wont make any difference apart from probably overfueling

Thanks for all the great info. I am probably going to go the route of buying spares and doing the paint work beforehand like you mentioned. As far as upgrades, I currently have a cold air intake system, and will be upgrading the plugs wires and plugs.
Will 19lb injectors hinder performance or hurt the car in anyway. I dont currently have a chip installed. I dont of course want to damage anything...thanks again!!

according to the infamous Jordan you might over-fuel with 19lb and they certainly will not increase the performance..might be ok if you were going to turbocharge..I put in 17lbs and have had no probs but I have bb throttlle body 6 branch header and a maf

Ok, well Im not going to hurt the performance of an already perfectly performing car. I usually research upgrades to a T, but these were kind of an impulse buy. I will turn around and sell them.
Now, what is the DIY procedure for cleaning your existing injectors? I know they have quite a few miles, if not all 142,000 on them. I'm sure just a cleaning will improve some performance. I will buy replacement o-rings and such. n3dsd, your help is greatly appreciated, you saved me a lot of headaches, anymore more pointers you have are def. welcome. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just used carb cleaner..tried to soak then inside and out.. and make sure you have a box handy for the nuts and bolts that seem to disappear...one of those magnetic probes for retrieving from down the engine is also handy.
If you want fit the 17lb injectors as they give no problems as you won't want to do this job again

mine now looks like this
