1987 325 with Problems!
I just bought a 1987 325 and it has some problems. I've never had a BMW so I'm a little confused. Here are the problems, please let me know if you have any advice at all! I'd like to do the work myself, so I can learn more about my baby!!
-Power windows will not work, except driverside -Turn signals do not work (but hazard lights do) -Speedometer randomly drops to zero then back to speed -Sunroof (crank style) leaks and is difficult to open -Doors will not lock -Interior rear passenger door handle needs replaced (it broke) I believe that is all. Luckily the body is in good condition and the engine and trans are fantastic. Please please please let me know if you have any advice! This is my first car, on my own and I don't want a dealer doing all the work. Thank you so much in advance!! Aly |
im pretty sure your speedo problem has to do with the speedo pickup. it in the differential, and its a 2 wire lead with a L shaped boot that connects to the pumpkin.
the sunroof - on the rear of the roof there is a drip tray. if its not in place, it may be in the roof itself, where the panel slides in. the difficulty in opening may be due to the fact that it needs adjustment, or lubrication. for the power windows, i would pop off the door card and test to make sure that there is current going to the leads that go to the windows motors. thats a good starting point. you can find door handles at online stores like bavauto.com, pelicanparts.com, maybe even bmpdesign.com (not likely) or autohausaz.com. or you can check a local dump to see if they have another E30 there and lift it off that. your other probs would just be guessing on my part, but good luck, and welcome to ub and E30 ownership! |
Since the emergency flashers work I'd assume the fuse for the signal is blown. There are in fact separate fuses for both systems fuse 4 and 24 (I'm not sure which is which but those are the two).If that does not work I would check the turn signal switch/lever.
As far as power windows and locks I agree with celsdogg. It sounds like you're either not getting electricity or there has been a mechanical failure in which case you'll have to replace the locks and drive mechanism for the windows. Another simple suggestion for the windows is that the switch may simply be corroded and needs to be cleaned. Although that has not happened to my BMW I have had problems like that in other cars. If you need help removing the interior trim to get to the window drive mechanism just pm me. |
Oh give us some pics of the car if you haven't already.
