Chip...for speed

hey guys/gals,

local guy is selling a dinan chip, i am debating to get it or not, would i see any gains from it, he says its about 15-20 hp/torque increase. my car is pretty much stock, no fancy exhaust, etc. what ya think?

it's an E30 and i enjoy the hell out of it though.

How much does he want for it so if you buy it you won't waste too much money if it doesn't work? I seriously doubt a chip adds 15-20hp

this is what he said:

"Just a plain ole Dinan chip for the 173 ecu cars. Anyway supposedly about 15 horsepower and torque or so plus 500 more rpm."

i have the same chip in my 85 325 e adds about 20 hp cons are 92 octain or higher premium unleaded only. and turns up idle speed to around 1000 rpms might not be worth it on a stock car .reason i have it on mine is i have msd ingnition system .and 3" cat with full flowmaster exhast. and so on,if you plan on doing more to your car might buy it and hold on to it for a later date. cant beat 35 bucks.

We must be lucky in Australia as standard unleaded is 91 octane, premium is 95 and ultra is 98. At the moment 91 costs A$1.24/litre, 95 is about A$1.29 and 98 is A$1.34. I was thinking of getting a chip for my 535i E39 which currently uses 95 octane. (A$1 is US$0.93) More expensive than in USA but much less than Europe!

If it is a original chip, for $35 it's a steal. You should make sure though that it is a good chip and not a damaged one.

MTP3, a chip can add that much on a car. I have a custon made one and it's +24HP and +20TQ. You can feel the difference.

thats a steal. Ild take it.

I have a turner Motor Sport chip in my 318 and i like it. Onl issue for me is the lack of rev limiter, seeing how i like to drive the hell out of the car. But either way i felt a slight increase in power in my 318
