hmm. as far as i know there arent any upgraded ECU's. Atleast i havnt heard of any yet. Try Ireland Engineering. Give them a call and see if they know anything about it.

I think there are upgraded ECUs, especially for the M and the 325, but I dunno where to get them... have you tried the usual stuff (google and ebay)?

What I did was swap my 173 ECU for a 153 and added a custom chip a friend of mine had. The 153 came off my previous E30, a German specs 325i. The only thing it won't read is my check engine light. Still runs smooth though

would a bad ECU also affect high RPM's, my 325is E30 has been sitting idle at 1 and won't budge down. any suggestions.

Yes it can. It did to me. But make sure you check and see what codes (if any) is your check engine light is giving you.
