320/6 idleing problems

I have an E21 320/6 auto with standard carb fitted. When the car is stationary it stutters and often stalls especially as it is an auto as when in drive the revs drop too low during a stutter when I come to a stop . Can anybody give me some things to check, e.g fuel pressure, carb adjustments. The car does not stutter when driving but lacks power. The previous owner did not have it very long and told me the carb needed adjusting. The car has had recent service including spark plugs, oil change, timing belt and air filter.
As I have just bought the car,(literally just drove it home) and am still finding my way around it, can anyone tell me if I should be adding a fuel additive to the unleaded I am putting in it.
The car has only done 65500 miles and looking through the receipts it has done very little mileage in the last year and a half.
I am am fairly mechanically minded and one end of the spanner from the other.
If there is anybody who is good at this type of problem in the Oxford (UK) area then please can you give me their details.
I love the car and can't wait to get it sorted!
James
