1. Fuel going to the rail
2. Spark at the plugs and wires (it will give you the jolt of your life if you're not careful)
3. Pop your distributor open and check both the rotor and the distributor for wear and tear.
4. Loose, frayed, or dry rotted hoses, vacuum lines, etc.

do you hear any combustion at all or is it just something spinning freely, and did you just get this car and its not starting, or have you been driving it and all of a sudden one day its not starting(i would suspect fuel pump relay in that case)

it could be that you have a bad *no spam - everyone here knows how to find BMW partsbmw spark plugs* try also checking the ignition module, pump, and starter.. by the way, have you done tune up, lately?
