Need Help really bad!!! I love my 325 but shes slowly dying - United Bimmer Community

im sorry to bother anyone...but i don't know anything about cars, except on how to drive, race, and crash them. My baby is an '87 325e. She happens to have 2 problems....that im very concerned about and taking her in tomorrow for check up.....

1) Coolant leak.....i can fill the coolant tank to the line and its fine...until i start to drive, then it's completely empty half a block later???

2) just recently the power windows stopped working.....i rolled them down.....drove home from work (2 minutes) and they wouldn't go back up. I noticed however the buttons weren't lit up (which they normally are when i have the lights on). there is no noise when i push the buttons and the fuses are fine?? <br> if it's possible to help inform me of what is wrong with her, Please and Thank You.

Well first of all your car isn't dying, it just has some boo boos.

Okay, so your leaking coolant. Badly. Look around from the top of the car and see if your hoses are worn. Next if you can jack up the front (Carefully and safely) and run the engine to locate the coolant leak (Torn hose, cracked radiator, busted overflow tank etc.)

You have an electrical problem with your windows that will have to be pin pointed. since the switches aren't lit they are not getting power, so that is a good starting point you'll just have to work your way back from there.

I'm not sure if the 87 has it but there is a breaker switch on mine that makes it so the windows won't do anything maybe thats the problem with the windows?? It would be above the radio and just look like a little black button that clicks. If that's the problem though it will have a little red outline that you should be able to see. Just push it and it will stay in and then they will work if that's the problem.

actually, before you do anything, tkae some DEEP BREATHS and realize that your car is okay, it just needs some maintenence. Think about how old your car is and how well it is doing for its age. Now you can feel assured that your car will come through perfectly fine. I had a coolant leak in mine recently. drtye30 is probably right - theres is a child lock button (or i assume that is why its there) on the middle console down by your shifter and heated seat buttons (the metal bumper ones DO have heated seats, right?) so try pressing that and seeing if your windows will work.

Would that turn off the illumination on the switches though?

I read somewhere on these forums that if the comfort relay fails that will stop the windows from working, but you will have to do a search for the thread, might be in the knowledge base.

Thank you guys so much....come find out....it was the little black button above the radio.... i've pushed it a few times when i first got the car...but nothing ever happened and i guess it shorted out or something, but the windows are working now. (^_^) as far as the coolant problem, still trying to find any leaks, tried last night, but it doesnt seem to be leaking when i the car is idle, only when its in gear. but my friends taking a look it (hes the car expert).
