Weired Steering Problem
I have a steering problem. My Car steering is "loose". I guess my best explanation is that it feels like a tire is off the gournd every once in a while and the car pulls randomly.
For example if im slowing down for a stop light and hit a slight bump in the road the car will pull in that direction. Then it pulls the other way if i hit a bump on the other side.
Or if i am on the freeway and i hit a slight road level change it pulls a little in the direction of the hole.
I checked the bushings, sway bar and stabilizers link, Nothing wrong. Could this be a tie rod issue? Steering rack?
I have just aligned the front and rear wheels.
but still the problem persists. Any Body have a solution for this.

my 318 did that before i swapped out the steering rack.
When i swapped it out it seemed to resolve the issue.
what you are describing could also be bent wheels.

I had the same problem for a little while 'cause my tie rod ends were nearly non existent. After I replaced them I went and got it aligned and it never did it again.

Steering Problem
I checked the tie rods and ball joint and they are perfect. The rear wheels seems to be bad. is it possible to be the bad rear wheels that caused this.

Are your tires stock? Deviating from the stock sizes or changing to performance tires can cause a phenomenon known as tramlining.

you know i read that article. makes sence. have been told about that. BUT...the 330 did not do that as much before. I have had everythign checked twice. All suspension is up to par and at factry settings.
i had continental tires(OEM) still did it. I get an alignment done and two weeks later its back to where it is now. So i figure wheels?
..atleast im not the only one dealing with this.

my 318s collum would make a kncking noise when i hit small bumps or occasionaly while turning.
where the two steering collum shafts come together there seems to be some play in a vertical motion..atleast in my 318. so the two pieces of the collum would knock.
i dont have a fix for it..but if u take off the panel by the pedals and tr to shake things around to see if thats whats making the noise.

Steering problem would relate to the front wheels, why did you change the rear tires?

I have the same problem. I have put a whole new front end on my 325E and all i have left is the Rack. I have heard that the old E30 racks, minus the M3's, have crappy steering. Switch for the Z3 rack and you will have a 3.5 lock to lock instead of the 4.0 lock to lock and it will be tighter. all that i have done to the front end has helped but the major problem is the rack. They suck.
