engine knock knock kcocking.
new to this forum so be gentle!
i recently purchased an 85' 325e and have a question/concern regarding engine knock. the car seems to have a diesel sounding knock at idle to 2000rpm...(not sounding likea lifter tap, but a knock)
it also idles irraticaly from time to time (vaccum leak?)
needless to say she's running a little rough.
the cap, rotor, plugs, oil, oil filter and fuel pump are all fresh. (i have a fuel filter which i will install soon.)
also im sure the vacuum hoses are all worn out. Go to realoem.com and check all the vacuum lines you may need. I changed mine out and the car idled better and seemed to have better performance.

got it checked out...looks like the rod bearings are worn and quite possibly the main bearings....time for an inframe bottom end rebuild. or is it even worth it?...find a rebuilt motor?...drive her til she drops?...The erratic idle was related to intake gaskets being blown. She runs good now, except for the knocking.
