Question Should I get it? Need advice.

Guys and Girls,

I just received a gift from God. I bumped into a guy here that wants to offload a well kept 88-90 325i (US Specs) very cheap. He and his wife just bought a 06' 528i and also have a family van. I really don't want to let mine go (very near and dear after all the work i've done), but looking at the cost to getting it shipped and converted to US specs ($6000-8000) is really making me think twice.

Does anyone know the difference in engines and drivetrain or somewhere I can find that info(American/European)? Also, did the US 325i come with the LSD rear on it and how would I be able to tell? I would probably transplant everything that I have done over to the other one. Thanks for the help.

AFAIK the LSD is an option on the ~89 325i (I just read that VIN may not help because the diff may have been replaced) The only way is to test it on a slippery surface or a lift. I think on a lift if the wheels turn the same way when one is turned, that's LSD and not if they turn the opposite ways. (not sure)

"E" you can compare the specs using either the vins and or production dates at www.realoem.com - (you'll see what I mean when you start brousing there)

in the US, not many have LSD's. some do have it tho. neither of mine did.

i believe it came with the sport package; in 318is, and the 325is.

The 325is should have a LSD it was an option on the 318is and unfortunatly there aren't many here with it (i don't have it but im working on finding one at the right price)

I believe the LSD was an option on both the "i" and "is" versions. I have a 3.2 LSD and on the window sticker (which I still have) it is counted as an option. To be sure, you need to run the VIN.

Hey all,

Thanks for the help. C1, thanks for the info and the site, there was stuff I didn't even imagine on there. I'm getting the US car next week and am going to talk to a guy that friends recommended me over here that knows bimmers really well. One thing is for certain, i'll be swapping out the diff and the trans and putting them on the US one. The body kit I am going to leave on the car and see if I can find a new one here. Once I start the work I'll put the pics up with the info. Thanks again, you're awesome.

mullethunter3, where can I run my VIN# to find out what kind of package my car had originally?
