fuel pump...
When I start my car I hear this whining sound from the rear… somewhere. It is only on when I start the car, when I turn it off it goes away.
Does the drive shaft spin when the car is started?
I read somewhere that the fuel pump tends to make noise when it's going bad. Is the fuel pump located under the rear seat on the right and the 325i 91 has only one fuel pump correct?
I checked online today and those pumps can be pricy alright, around 200 and change.
thanks in advance

yup. thats whats making noise, and it is going to fail. ask me how i know. . .
and you're right, its under the seat and there is only that one. lift up the cushion and you should see an access port to it.
i have changed the pump on my last 91 E30 325i and a ford tempo. the ford one was cheap, but it was a PITA to replace. had to drop the tank.
the BMW one might be expensive. but its so easy to replace. its a trade off, and ill take the BMW route anyday.

try the link below for the finding out which part no.
www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do
I also had a problem with my fuel pump blowing fuses and the cause was a blocked fuel filter so you might want to check that. I still replaced the pump tho...

hi
i have changed my bimmer's fuel pump several times, first with an original BMW part which lasted for several months, then with a Mitsubishi (i don't know which model) used one !! which lasted for more than a year, finally when that failed I put on a Korean fuel pump, I don't know how much will that last but it costs 10th the price of a BMW, the Korean pump is used for Hyundai, Kia and Honda as they claim, it costed me about 25$ while the BMW one costed 170$
I think this Korean one is not original, but it works, and the pressure is 3 bar

^^^Why do you keep blowing pumps? Are you letting the gas go way down near emplty before filling up? If so, that's the reason.

hm..i thoughtmy fuel pump was going out. tuned ou my ECu was diconcting.
either way when you purchase the fuel pump make sure you get the rebuilt one, otherwise you have to resolder the pump onto the assembly.
atleast with my 318.

iI thought OEM BMW parts, especially pricy as the fuel pump has a limited 1-2 year warranty, maybe it was faulty.
I read that if you keep going all the way low in fuel quite often, your fuel pump overheats, since it uses the fuel as a coolant, thus cutting it's life span.

Yah this was the reason of my blowing fuel pumps kept blowing, letting the fuel tank to get empty. Now I try not to do that, even sometimes I have to, to measure how is the fuel economy mpg

There's absolutely no reason to do that. A simple alternative is to fill up with gas when your gauge reads exactly half full. Record the number of gallons it took to fill it up again, and divide that into the number of miles you get until the tank is exactly half full again. Remember you want miles per gallon, not miles per tank.

fuel pump #?
bmw has different part # that will specifically fit to the type of auto you owned..i had my bmw 850CS #Delphi DPFE0357...it was old and it
actually keeps running cool, but debris and sediments from the bottom of the tank can block the pump's filter, causing it to get overworked. i changed my *punt spam* enough member complaints! for about two months ago..
