SO many problems...

so..where should i start my list.

Idle is funky and jumping around(checked icv, thorttle body, no codes thrown, new fuel pump, new filter...dont know what the hell is wrong.

my exhaust is..falling off. The bushings that hold it on are no more.

valves are clicking like..no description..but clicking pretty bad(prolly loose).

seeping oil everywhere out of the engine...

timing chain is rattling

ughhhhh all this crap is breaking.

Shit man doesn't sound like a cheap fix. Sell it to me in May, actually i want a 2 door so nevermind :stick

Might want to take it to a shop and have the 1 stop shop and get it all fixed.

Or get a metric mechanic m42.

sounds like the end a, i feel the same way sometimes, i love the car, but i wonder how long can i keep patching it and go on, is it worth the $$ i spent, i mean the car is near 200k.

right now i am saving for another car, i just hope my little Bavarian beast can keep plugging a while longer.

i hear noises from my engine, from the rear, it feels like a nightmare.

my idle was funky as well, i replaced the distributor cap, plugs, breather valve, fuel filter, and this past weekend i replaced what i called the culprit for the idle, the intake booth, i looked for cracks on the top, but mine was under it, now i can't hear the engine almost when i am at a stop, no rough idle like before...just the rear noises and muffler issues for now.

since i have the original tranny (automatic) i wonder how long can it go, i noticed it takes a bit long and rough changing 1st gear, would that be a sign of wearing down? i read people using red line transmission fluid and say it helps for better shift, should i change the fluid as well, i have the castrol dexron stuff now.

I've been there, it's a dark place.

The I hate my car thread

Now, I love my car, it fact, I'm going for a night drive in an hour or so.

celsdogg 01-22-2007 10:40 PM

maybe vacuum leaks?

xsperf 01-22-2007 10:42 PM

valve noise could be due to low oil, check ur oilpan gasket

witeshark 01-22-2007 10:44 PM

I so know the feeling

Numark318i 01-22-2007 10:47 PM

changed all the vacuum hoses.

whats funny is the car runs like a race car. has never been this fast. Which is odd. But it sounds like shit. the idle is weird and it wont start sometimes.

also my power steering is acting up.

Shit my 381 is faster then a 2004 V6 accord with exhaust and intake.

I dont know what the hell to do....ahh. Dont want to fork out money for a car..but this is costing me alot to mantain.

My engine is sweating.

M42 engines are known for the "sewing machine" sound after 150K. I suggest taking the valve cover off and doing a valve adjustment.
its not that hard, just need a feeler gauge, socket wrench and an open box wrench.

I had a really bad ticking problem with my M20, the valve adjustment made it near silent.

BTW, if your problem gets worse, chuck the motor and get an M20 or M50. cheap motors and easy to swap.

yea maybe ill adjust them. Havent done that yet. so i might take it to a friends shop, he knows what hes doing.

and i have to look into getting a new oilpan gasket and checking if any screws fell out(read a article about screws falling out of the chain assembly and ending up in the oil pan..?) into my pan, causing less oil to get circulated.

btw E30slideways, nice site. I like the articles.

e30_slideways

is there any DYI on how to do a valve adjustment, pics of the procedure would be nice.

my E30 325 also makes a ticking sound when running, sometimes i wonder if someething is about tho bust in the engine or what, has been running like this for a while now, but if adjusting the valve can fix it i am willingto do it.

I know how you feel man, but on the other hand once everything is replaced your car should run great for a while. At least I hope so on my car also after I install the rest of the parts I ordered.

dinan540 01-23-2007 04:28 PM

Welcome to the club. There are so many niggling problems. I have found while owning my 540, it is very expensive to maintain and operate. When things fail, they are spendy. The sad part is my car is newer than most on this board and needs to be religiously maintained otherwise it won't run properly. But when it runs well, it is a glorious machine to own and operate.
